VP NOLI
CASTIGATES RELOCATEES SELLING HOUSES
28 April 2006
MORE than 10 houses in a resettlement area are going to be
padlocked next week by the National
Housing Authority (NHA) once the shelter
agency is able to confirm that they were sold by legitimate relocates
to
non-beneficiaries of the Northrail relocation program, according to
Vice
President and Housing
and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) concurrent
chairman Noli ‘Kabayan’ De Castro.

De Castro made the announcement in Northville 5 in Bocaue,
Bulacan yesterday after personally inspecting the houses that were
reportedly
sold to ‘outsiders’ by the housing program beneficiaries.
“Binalaan ko na kayo noon pero hindi kayo nakinig. Ngayon,
kailangan ninyong pagsisihan ang inyong matitigas na ulo,” a visibly
irked De
Castro told relocatees guilty of selling their houses.

Earlier, the Vice President warned against selling of houses
in resettlement areas because it is illegal. Despite the lack of funds,
he said
the government is spending millions of pesos to provide housing for
qualified
beneficiaries in order for them to have decent, dignified and better
lives.
“Pero isa lang ang hiling ko sa inyo, ‘wag na ‘wag ninyong
ipagbibili ang bahay na ipinagkaloob ng gobyerno para sa inyo at sa mga
magmamana pa nito. Minsan lang kayo magkakaroon ng ganitong
pagkakataon,” De
Castro said during his previous visits to relocation sites.

De Castro said selling of houses in resettlement areas is strictly
prohibited and violators will be penalized by canceling their awards.

But since some of the relocatees proved to be very hard-headed,
De Castro said he has no other recourse but to implement the
corresponding
penalty. He said neither the seller nor the buyer of an illegally sold
house in
the relocation site would be spared from the punishment because both
would be
evicted from the shelter.

He said NHA would be more than glad to
find another qualified
beneficiary to occupy the house and apply for its ownership.
