THE MANILA Jockey Club (MJC) is holding a sporting event aimed at raising funds to send poor children to school.

A joint undertaking of the MJC and the Kabayan Noli De Castro Foundation, Inc., the Kabayan Charity Cup, a horseracing event, is slated on March 19 at the San Lazaro Hippodrome in Carmona, Laguna.

Like other similar endeavors aimed at raising funds for the benefit of poor children’s education, the Vice President is supporting the event.

Agencies such as the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Philippine Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), SMART, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) and the Philippine Racing Commission (PRC) have already signified their commitment to sponsor the event, according to Atty. Jesse Andres, De Castro’s chief of staff. The proceeds of the fund shall be used to finance the education of children whose parents cannot afford to pay tuition fees.

“The goals of the Charity Cup is consistent with the desire of the Vice President to put these children to school where they can gain education and later become productive and responsible citizens,” he added.

As a come-on, TV commercials of sponsors shall be flashed for free on Destiny Cable for the duration of the event, organizers said.
