672 poor Makati families relocated to Laguna

SAN ANTONIO CLEARING OPERATIONS 99% COMPLETE—VP NOLI

VICE President and concurrent Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) chairman Noli ‘Kabayan’ De Castro bared yesterday that a total of 672 railway families in Makati were already relocated in Cabuyao, Laguna as he announced that clearing operations in Barangay San Antonio is almost complete.

De Castro made the announcement during an inspection with Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay on the status of clearing operations in the Makati segment of the Southrail.

To date, Barangay San Antonio is almost 94% cleared of structures. The remaining 18 structures were given up to March 2 to transfer to Cabuyao based on the 3-day notice issued by NHA.

 
Clearing operations in San Antonio is expected to be completed early next month even NHA prepares for the Magallanes segment. All in all, there are still 34 families to be relocated from the 3 other Barangays in Makati. The Makati segment spans a length of 4.5 Kilometers from San Antonio to Magallanes. The Makati railway is being cleared of informal settlers to pave the way for the start of the Southrail project. After Makati, the cities of Taguig and Muntinlupa would be next for clearing operations.

“We are currently talking with Mayor Tinga and Mayor Fresnedi on relocation plans for Taguig and Muntinlupa, respectively,” De Castro said.

 
Meanwhile, De Castro expressed his gratitude for the full support and assistance extended by Mayor Binay and his team to ensure the smooth transfers of the families to their new community in Southville, in Cabuyao, Laguna.
