CITIES ALLIANCE
UN-HABITAT GRANT FOR NHA RESETTLEMENT SITES
16
September 2005
THE United Nations-Habitat
country office confirmed that National Housing Authority (NHA)
resettlement sites in
Valenzuela City (Northville 1 and 2) and San Jose del Monte, Bulacan (Towerville) are
included in the pilot sites of
the cities alliance grant ‘cities without slums initiatives’.
Vice
President Noli “Kabayan” De Castro concurrent Housing
and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC)
chair requested for the inclusion of these sites as these are projects requiring
priority assistance given the
fast track mode being implemented to clear the Northrail R-O-W.
De Castro
said that he has called on the private sector housing partners to likewise do
their share in uplifting and
improving the lives of the relocatees in the new communities and the cities
alliance grant can complement
the efforts of the private sector through the extension of livelihood and
entrepreneurial
training
opportunities and advocacy for savings mobilization.
The ‘cities
without slum initiatives’ is a 500 thousand dollars grant aimed at assisting
urban poor communities in
implementing an integrated approach to shelter planning.
