SHELTER BEFORE POLITICS—VP NOLI TELLS
ZAMBOANGENOS
12 September 2005
DESPITE the political
tension in the country, Vice-President and Housing and Urban
Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) concurrent chairman Noli
‘Kabayan’ De Castro recently went to Zamboanga to continue the
implementation of the national housing program.
Committed
to pursue President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s 10- point agenda, which
aims to give shelter to millions of homeless Filipinos, De Castro
distributed certificates of lot allocation for the first 60
beneficiaries of CCC Villahermosa Housing Project in Luyahan, Upper
Pasananca.
De Castro also joined top
local officials led by Zamboanga mayor Celso Lobregat in inaugurating
the housing project, which is a joint undertaking of the city
government and the National Housing Authority (NHA).
De Castro told Zamboanganeos
that HUDCC would remain focused in its responsibility to provide decent
housing to poor Filipinos in any part of the country. “Above
politics is the welfare of our brothers who needs shelter and decent
life,” he said.
From Luyahan, the Vice
President together with the heads of various key shelter agencies
proceeded to Lunzuran to inaugurate the Casas De Camor Subdivision, a
project of the Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) or Pag-Ibig.
During the activity, De
Castro awarded the notice of approval for five Pag-Ibig take-outs for
the project.
In Zamboaga City, De Castro
also released checks from the National Home Mortgage Finance
Corporation (NHMFC) to Community Mortgage Program (CMP) beneficiaries
from the Alta Gracia Homeowners Association (HOA) and the Km. 4
Talon-Talon HOA.
This was followed by the
release of NHMFC letter of guarantee to the Magkaisa HOA, Inc. and the
Tugbungan Morning Breeze HOA.
Twenty-one members of the
Suterville Community Association Inc. beamed during the event as De
Castro released their land titles after fully paying their CMP dues to
NHMFC.
“This is a good example of
what I’ve been trying to tell beneficiaries of the government’s housing
program. We in the government are doing our part in implementing the
housing program. By paying your dues, you are also doing your part. It
is only through this way that HUDCC and the KSA’s can sustain the
shelter program,” he said.
