Vice President Noli “Kabayan” De Castro called on the Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Angelo Reyes and Philippine National Police Chief Director General Arturo Lomibao to a meeting in order to tackle on the measures to take that would stop the increasing number of deaths of media men in the country and inquire unto the results of the investigation of these killings.

 

“Dahil sa mas nalalaman ng mga local na pamahalaan ang mga isyung tinatalakay ng mga mediamen na nagtratrabaho sa kanilang lugar, at dahil nasa kanilang area of jurisdiction ang mga ito, mas madaling matututukan ng respective LGUs, katulong ang pulisya, ang kapakanan at kaligtasan ng mga mamamahayag.  Ito rin ang hakbang na nakikita natin na makakatulong maresolba ang mga kaso ng mga napatay na mediamen na matagal nang humihingi ng hustisya,” the Vice President said. 

 

Statistics showed that there had been already 8 slay attempts to kill journalists in the country since January and three of those resulted to death while 5 others were injured.
